This is where I live- Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Well, where I live for four months out of the year now.
This is where I go to school- South Bend, Indiana. It can get kind of depressing. Which is why I've learned to appreciate what I have while I'm here. I don't even bitch about how hot it is anymore. Well...not as much anyways.
I work for a small local Beaches paper, so I'm kind of on the inside now. Even though I've lived here for sixteen years, I'm eating at new restaurants, finding new places to hang out at, and interacting with some...interesting people, to say the least. Even the city hall meetings I have to go to aren't so bad.
So just a little background history...
Jacksonville Beach, FL which is consolidated with the main city of Jacksonville, FL but remains semi-independent with it's own municipal government, although we citizens are able to vote in both city elections...and technically have two mayors, two police departments, etc. It's a strange system that no one really understands, but it works for us.
Living and working in a beach town you have a whole different way of living and interacting with people than I've seen in a lot of cities. Maybe it's a southern thing, maybe it's just about living in a small community where everyone has something in common- the beach.
I found this video on Youtube that shows the Jax Beach Pier, a beautiful spot where around where you can always find the interesting, unique people (and animals) who make us the town that I love so much and am so fascinated by. Maybe it will explain a little better than I can why life is so amazing here.
I've opened up this blog so that I can share all the new and interesting things I've learned since I've gone North, gone overseas and put my toes in both sides of the Atlantic.
